There are five styles of carpeting. Cut pile construction carpeting: Velvet, Saxony, Frieze, Shag, and Cable. Cable is also known as cut and loop. Each of these five kinds of corporate provide a different look and texture.

The primary difference among these five styles of carpeting is the amount of twist in the yarns. The number of twists influence the carpets durability.

If you pick out carpet for your house, the choices can be overwhelming. You will want to stop into a showroom and look at and touch the carpet you are thinking of purchasing. It is a good idea to speak with a designer as well.  



Velvet-
Velvet carpet is fine tip sheared surface, elegant style, very formal and traditional. It has a classic broadloom construction, and it is excellent in formal dining and living rooms.

Saxony-
Saxony carpet is smooth, soft cut piles surface of medium height. Saxonies range from plush to textured and trackless. Saxony is versatile in its performance and in its appearance. Textured Saxony carpet can be used in nearly any setting. Works well with formal and traditional rooms.

Frieze-

Frieze carpet has a textured surface with kinked or curled appearance. It is extremely durable and long wearing. It is good for high traffic area and rooms. Sometimes it is referred to as a California shag, but that is mistaken as the Frieze is a textured carpet.

Shag-

The shag carpet is soft cozy and luxurious. The surface helps hide foot prints it is a deep pile texture with long cut surface yarns. It has great texture, it is fun, it is casual in appearance. It is ideal for young and active families to use in any room.

Cable-
Cable or cut and loop carpet has level loops and multi-level loops. Level loops are loops with all of the same height casual appearance but extremely durable it has a smooth soft velvet like surface, it is great for any room in an active families home or it can work in fitness rooms as well. The multi-level loop carpet has several different lengths it creates unique patterns and is also good for any room.



These carpets all come in a variety of colors. You can work with a designer if you go into a showroom.
