Tips for Maintaining Solid Hardwood Flooring

AffinityX GrayTV • June 24, 2020
Your flooring is an essential element of your home, and it greatly contributes to its aesthetic appeal. That's why it's important that you maintain them regularly.

If you have solid hardwood floors, you don't have to worry because taking care of them is easy. It's just like taking care of laminate floors. When you maintain them properly, they can look shiny. To make this possible, follow these simple maintenance tips:

Use Furniture Pads

Your hardwood floors are highly susceptible to scratches. In fact, they're one of the biggest problems to solve when it comes to these types of flooring. They're caused by furniture, most especially heavy ones.

The best way to prevent this problem is to use furniture pads. Their main purpose is to protect your floors from getting scratches. Put these under the legs of your couch, chairs, tables, cabinets, and other heavy objects that you think may damage your wood flooring.

Sweep or Dust Daily

You should make sweeping or dusting your floors an everyday habit. This may sound excessive, but it's a great way to make sure that grains, dust, or anything dirty doesn't settle between your floorboards.

You can also use a vacuum at least once a week. This is just to make sure that you get the extra crumbs, dust, or anything you missed when you were sweeping. Remember to vacuum slowly so as not to scratch your flooring.

Clean Spills

Water or any substance that causes moisture will bring more damage to your hardwood flooring as time goes by. Keep in mind that wood swells and shrinks with moisture.

If something is spilled on your hardwood floors, clean it immediately. Use a dry or slightly damp cloth as much as possible. Avoid using mops drenched with water, as this can bring moisture to your flooring. You should also ban wet shoes inside your house, and keep your home's temperature between 60 to 80 degrees.
