Laminate vs. Carpeting – The Big Debate
Kris Eastwood • May 25, 2021

You are looking to upgrade your bedroom flooring type but unsure which choice to use – laminate flooring
or carpeting. Is one better than the other? Does it matter if you choose laminate vs. carpeting? Or, instead, which is better for your specific needs?
There are many different factors when looking at deciding on laminate
vs. carpeting. From the room of the house and how it will be used, to the people that will most like occupy the space. Let’s compare both flooring options.
Carpeting:
Pros:
Carpeting
provides quieter rooms and better insulation in your home while offering a softer, more pleasant feel, especially on bare feet. Carpeting tends to provide more choices and colors and does not replicate other products.
Cons:
Carpeting
holds moisture, pollen, allergens, pet hair, and more. Kids spill their drink, or the new puppy is potty training, and the carpet will hold that moisture in. You can clean it but what if you don't catch it in time – it will soak in, create a stain, maybe a lingering smell. You will need to clean carpets weekly. Carpets will last at least 8-15 years but are harder to repair.
Laminate Flooring:
Pros:
Laminate flooring
is made to look like hardwood flooring and can offer a whole different look to a room or house. It hides dirt well and is so much easier to clean: a bonus to those allergy sufferers. Laminate flooring offers fewer choices than carpeting but is made to replicate wood or stone so the look offers a more aesthetic appeal - just weekly cleaning with no extensive maintenance needed to laminate flooring.
Cons:
Laminate flooring
is not as soft as carpet but can still offer comfort. Rooms are also much louder and colder because of lack of absorption. Laminate flooring lasts at least 8-15 years like carpeting but is easier to repair.
Cost Difference:
The biggest thing you are wondering about is the cost. What is the difference between the two because, let’s face it, that is the selling point. Well, honestly, laminate
vs. carpeting flooring
costs are pretty comparable. That doesn’t help you make your decision, right. It comes down to other factors of personal preference – cleanliness and care, durability, upkeep, appearance, choices, comfort, insulation, and noise reduction.
